What is a gutter guard?

A gutter guard is a protective screen, mesh, or cover system installed over an open gutter channel. Its primary function is to block leaves, twigs, and other debris from entering the gutter while permitting water to flow unobstructed into the downspouts and drainage system.

In the Greater Hartford region, where deciduous trees are abundant and seasonal leaf drop is heavy, homeowners and building managers often turn to gutter guards to reduce maintenance demands. Without guards, gutters clog frequently, requiring manual cleaning two to four times per year. Guards minimize this need and help prevent water from backing up under roof edges or spilling over the sides during heavy rain.
